Source Name
The name of the chain or individual location responsible for publishing the price.
Research standards and verification
Published prices, identifiable sources, and checked dates.
ShredPriceFinder compares published drop-off document shredding prices by individual location. This page explains where our information comes from, how records are checked, how comparisons are calculated, and how corrections are handled.
01 / Information sources
Price records are sourced from published pricing information for the specific location. The strongest source is the location's or chain's own published pricing. Many drop-off locations — most UPS Store franchises among them — publish no price of their own; for those, a record may be sourced from Shred Nations' per-location partner page, which publishes that location's price together with its own disclaimer that pricing is not guaranteed and is subject to change by the individual merchant. The publisher is named as the source on every record, and the original source URL is retained with each record.
When an individual store publishes its own shredding prices, the record is associated with that specific location. Its published rate is not assumed to apply to other stores operated under the same brand.
When a chain publishes a uniform price, that information is treated as chain-published pricing and attributed to the chain's own source.
A general third-party directory listing, a customer review, or an unverified price mentioned elsewhere does not qualify as a published source; the one partner source used is described above and is named on every record it supports. We do not invent prices for locations that do not publish them.
A location without qualifying published price information is not represented as a verified priced listing.
02 / Record requirements
The name of the chain or individual location responsible for publishing the price.
A link to the original published pricing information used to support the record.
The date the published source was checked. This date appears alongside the price.
Every displayed price follows this attribution pattern:
Checked YYYY-MM-DD
A record without both its source and checked date is not eligible to render as a published price.
We preserve the published pricing structure rather than silently converting one type of charge into another.
03 / Pricing structures
A per-pound rate is recorded as published by the source. It is the primary comparison unit for the national price index and metro price tables.
A published minimum charge is recorded separately from the per-pound rate. It is not omitted merely because a location also publishes a weight-based price.
A per-box price remains a per-box price. It is not converted into an assumed per-pound rate because box contents and weights can differ.
Published extras, including hard-drive or other media destruction and witnessed shredding, are recorded as the source describes them.
When a provider does not publish a particular charge, ShredPriceFinder does not supply a substitute estimate or imply that the service is included.
04 / Chain pricing
One of the most important distinctions in this directory is whether a price is published by a chain or by an individual franchise location.
A uniform price published by FedEx Office is represented as chain-published pricing, with its official source identified.
The UPS Store page compares prices published by individual locations. Its franchise-level prices are treated as separate records.
Individual store prices are never combined into a single assumed UPS Store chain-wide rate.
05 / Calculations
The national per-pound range is calculated using the lowest and highest qualifying per-pound rates in the collected location records.
The median is calculated from the qualifying published per-pound rates in the supplied dataset. It is not an estimate or an external industry average.
Metro tables contain the collected priced locations assigned to that metro. Where per-pound prices are available, locations are sorted from lowest to highest published rate.
Any displayed record count is derived from the actual records used for that particular comparison. No projected collection targets or unverified locations are included in published statistics.
Per-pound prices, minimum charges, and per-box charges are kept distinct. They are not mixed into a single calculation without a comparable published basis.
06 / Maintenance
Each price record displays the date its underlying published source was checked. This allows readers to distinguish recently checked information from older published records.
When a published source is checked again and a change is verified, the corresponding record can be updated with the newly published information and its new checked date.
Readers can report outdated prices, broken source links, incorrect location information, or other discrepancies using the correction form below.
Reports are reviewed against the relevant published source. A submitted correction does not automatically change a published record.
A checked date describes when the source was reviewed. It is not a guarantee that a provider has not changed its prices since that date.
Always confirm the current price directly with the location before visiting.
